Hi, Ladies. Well, the unofficial beginning of summer has begun. Did you all have a wonderful Memorial Day?
I certainly did have a great Memorial Day! My celebration began as my son and I laid the flowers on the graves of those we love and miss so greatly. Even though my son is challenged in some ways, I feel that I am the one who could take a few lessons from him. He always loves to see the flags flying at the cemetery. He asks me so many questions about the graves of the people. But, most of all, he asks me about the lives of the people. Many he has never known, but I know would have been so blessed to have known him.
My son loves the military and would love to serve in the armed forces. So, I let him act as the “Color Guard” as we decorate the graves. His teacher at school told me that they had to make the recruiters table at school “off limits” for him. They said he was always going over to the the Army, Navy, Air Force or Marines to sign up.There is just one problem, they don’t take people with Down Syndrome.
Lucky for me, though, he is always around to provide the muscle I need for the business. And he’s happy with that. Just so he gets to salute all the graves of the military every time we go to the cemetery, that’s all right with him. That makes me proud to be his mother and of him!
All of you ladies who have someone serving or have served or are serving in the military – I thank you that my son has such incredible role models! Thank you for your courage as well as theirs. You are an inspiration to all of us!
