Hello, my favorite people in the world. I promised you a blog post about the home one of my daughters has, shall I say rescued from an abandoned old farm house and has made it into a work of art. I should not just say my daughter has done this. It has been the expertise of my son in law and the hard work and skill of his hands that this has been accomplished. (I have such great son-in-laws! Hopefully, they don’t know any mother-in-law jokes that the feel apply to me.)

First of all, let me tell you I was given some ground rules that I was to obey in creating this post. They don’t want me to show the outside of the home. The reason being that they have so many people that have seen this house and had wished that they had bought it after they had seen what the kids had accomplished. My kids are hospitable people, they just don’t like complete strangers knocking at their door wanting to see the inside. So bear with me as I am sure some of the details will not be allowed in the post.

I remember the day we saw the house for the first time. Oh my!!! The thoughts that went through our minds. This can never be as beautiful as they had dreamed it would. However, I was wrong. So was my husband (and he built our house so–he knows a lot about construction.) The house was in shambles. They were going to have to have major supports put in, every wall was going to have to be torn down. The electrical was going to have to be completely replaced. You name it–it would have to been done. Ugh!! I remembered what a sacrifice of time it was and a drain on the life of your marriage.

But alas, they proved us wrong. The first picture is their living room. The fireplace has been rebricked to match the brick in their entryway. I love it as it is so perfect for being out in the woods of Colorado. (Eat your heart out everyone.)

Now this is the entry. As you can see, they wanted to keep the personality of the home alive the way the original builder envisioned his home in the forest. Of course, he used trees on his property as often as could. As I understand it, he milled his own wood. The spindles on the staircase as you can tell from the picture is definitely handmade. If only you could have seen this when they bought it.

The windows have all been replaced and made to look like the “Craftsman Style” so popular of days gone by.

I know I’ve mentioned the floors previously, but just wanted you to see how the wood look laid diagonally. The wood is a little rough, but hides the stuff on the floor so much better than my floor. Out here in the country, stuff just collects a whole lot worse on the floors than in the city.

And look what she baked up for us to enjoy with our hamburgers. What a lovely kitchen and the stove is to die for. These kids are quite the entertainers and she really does need a kitchen this grand to accommodate all the guests she has at one time. I guess next week she’ll be having 150 people over for dinner. Of course, not all in her home, but on the beautiful property they own.

And in the little barn you see in the last picture—I wish I could take you and show you the loft. My grand kids and I have climbed the steps to the loft and it is wonderfully decorated with little Christmas Lights everywhere. I feel like I am at a wedding reception when I enter the area. I know they must know how it feels to have lived during “Little House on the Prairie” days.

Just wanted to show you a glimpse of the dining area off the kitchen. The table easily accommodates 12 people.

All the doors and woods in their home had to be stained and redone to make the place come alive and on trend. There is so much more to the home, but this post is too long already. I just wanted to show you a few places in the home I am fond of. The bedrooms are incredible and baths are so comfy. I could soak all days in the tubs.

But, really all in all, the reason I am so impressed is that they took something that I would have bulldozed down and reinvented with a vision that only someone who was going to love the property for a lifetime could imagine. All I could see was the chicken coop that the people who had the house before had incorporated into the house. Right below the living room! Not something I could deal with.

I am so glad for the people in my life who have seen the potential in me and had invested time in me and loved me. They didn’t see the stinky chicken coop that was a part of my life. They looked beyond all my flaws and my insecurities and built me up and made me strong. All because they were willing to look beyond my imperfections and saw potential in me. Thank you to all who have done that. You’ve made my life feel beautiful!

On to what this blog is really about! Our Autumn Open House is- September 6 – 10.

Thank you to all in advance for marking your calendars and coming to the event. You’ve the greatest!
